Applications for Life: Leadership

John G. P. Hunt

AFL Founder | CEO

PROFILE

John began working with children at a young age, caring for his siblings and relatives before taking on summer roles as a recreation counselor in Gary. There, he helped manage over 150 children and led group excursions. As captain of his high school wrestling team, he honed leadership skills that continued into his service in the Marine Corps, where he contributed to Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) programs and organized community events. After founding the not-for-profit Leadership by Example in South Carolina, John returned to Gary, Indiana. Noticing the need for anti-violence curricula, he developed over 300 teaching methods implemented in more than 50 inner-city schools across Gary and Indianapolis. His programs have supported youth mental health, emotional intelligence, and academic skills, and he has worked with organizations like the Marion County Juvenile Center, Boys and Girls Club, YMCA, and Peers Project. As CEO of Application for Life 501(c)(3), John leads a team creating original teaching solutions for inner-city children.
